The earlier version described a single decision procedure in which the Commission adopts implementing acts either conferring or rejecting protection after completion of the objection procedure under Article 98, always following the examination procedure of Article 229(2).
The later version splits this into three numbered paragraphs: one covering the case where no admissible statement of objection was received, where protection is conferred without applying Article 229(2) or (3); a second covering the case where an admissible objection was received, where the examination procedure of Article 229(2) applies to a decision to confer or reject protection; and a third stating that protection conferred under the Article does not affect producers' obligations to comply with other Union rules, including those on placing products on the market and on food labelling.
